During course registration, just sign up for Treble Chorus or Bass Chorus. No audition necessary!

All vocal ensembles are offered as classes during the school day!

All vocal music classes are "extended day" (7/8) electives which means you can add them to your schedule, even if you already have 6 other classes! 

Treble & Bass Chorus

Level: Entry - No audition required!

Voice types: All

If you have ever wanted to learn how to sing, this is the perfect class for you! Treble and Bass Choir is open to ALL singers regardless of prior experience. The ensemble sings a diverse range of repertoire including pop, musical theater, classical, jazz, and more. Through the year, students learn and develop:

Treble & Bass Chorus is a great place to make new friends, learn how to sing, bond over music, and have FUN!!

Vocal Performance Ensemble

Level: Intermediate (audition required)

Voice types: All

Vocal Performance Ensemble is a unique vocal class that focuses on contemporary solo and group repertoire with an emphasis on pop music and musical theater. Solo singing is a large component of the class in addition to ensemble singing. Through the year students will gain experience in:

Treblemakers 

Level: Intermediate/Advanced (audition required)

Voice types: Tenor, Baritone, Bass

This auditioned ensemble is for those who can sing comfortably in the tenor, baritone, or bass range. This ensemble of low voices sings a diverse range of repertoire including barbershop, classical, pop, jazz, and more. Performances throughout the year include concerts, pep rallies, festivals, competitions, and community events. Members of this ensemble are have many special extra opportunities to sing and perform including, festivals, concerts, master classes, field trips, and tours. 

Canta Bella

Level: Advanced (audition required)

Voice types: Soprano & Alto

Canta Bella is an advanced, treble ensemble that focuses on performance of challenging literature of diverse genres. Students will acquire and use high level skills in reading music and in vocal technique, as well as performance, music production, and leadership. Performances throughout the year include concerts, pep rallies, festivals, competitions, and community events. Members of this ensemble are have many special extra opportunities to sing and perform including, festivals, concerts, master classes, field trips, and tours. 

Portola Singers 

Level: Advanced (audition required)

Voice types: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass

Portola Singers is an advanced, mixed-voice (SATB) singing ensemble that focuses on performance of challenging literature of diverse genres. Students will acquire and use high level skills in reading music and in vocal technique, as well as performance, music production, and leadership. Performances throughout the year include concerts, pep rallies, festivals, competitions, and community events. Members of this ensemble are have many special extra opportunities to sing and perform including, festivals, concerts, master classes, field trips, and tours. 

Auditions

Auditions for the 2024-2025 Auditioned Choirs are April 22-26, 2024.

Audition Information

Auditions are required to join the following ensembles:

♫ Vocal Performance - Pop/Contemporary/Musical theatre repertoire, with an emphasis on solo singing

Treblemakers -Advanced ensemble for tenor and bass voices

♫ Canta Bella - Advanced ensemble for treble voices

♫ Portola Singers - Advanced ensemble for mixed voices

Audition Components:

1. Vocal Range – You will be asked to sing a few simple vocal patterns to demonstrate your vocal range, vocal technique, and intonation. 

2. Sight Singing – You will sight read a melodic exercise to demonstrate your ability to read sheet music. For the exercise you may sing on solfege, numbers, or a neutral syllable such as "Ta”.  Samples of sight reading can be found in the link below. During the audition, you will get to choose the difficulty level (1-6) that you feel you will do best at. Examples of the different levels are available below. The key and the first note will be played for you and you will have 1 minute to practice on your own before singing.
