Welcome to Porchella 2024! We are so happy to have you with us as our students take you on a musical journey through different eras and styles and showcase the skills they have been working on throughout the year. It has been an amazing year and we are very much looking forward to one more great night of music before we head off into summer!
We have a variety of food options for you and hope you enjoy the selection. A portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting our amazing students and program.
Throughout the past few years we have enjoyed seeing our community grow at these concerts! We hope that you get to meet some of the other concert goers we have with us here tonight!
To sum it up - THANK YOU! Thank you for the support throughout the year, thank you for spending your time with us tonight, and thank you for allowing us another opportunity to share the passion of the students with you!
Throughout the school year our percussion students have joined us to explore the variety of sounds that the percussion instrument family have to offer. Since the beginning of the year the students have enjoyed drumming along to songs on different instruments, but tonight they will be playing one of their favorites, We Will Rock You by Queen. Clap and sing along as they are joined on stage by Strikethrough to open up our second night of Porchella!
Nazif Ahmed, Alec Cariasco, Alex Chiu, Brian Le, and Nicholas Nguyen
Tonight we have our friends from down the street joining us to share the work they have been doing at Cadence Park School in the music department. We are so excited to see these future Bulldogs on stage showing off what they got!
We would like to thank Sofia Szczedrin, a Portola Senior, for her assistance in creating the artwork for this year's concert. Posters and T-Shirts are available for purchase and are a great way to remember this magical night for you and your student. They can be purchased at the ticket table near the music rooms. All proceeds will go towards supporting our thriving arts programs at PHS!
Without the leadership of our students in all of our ensembles we would not be where we are at as a program, and our Popular Music Track is no exception. Over the past 4 years our ensembles have grown both in size and in maturity. The culture of respect to the craft, the members, and the equipment has taken a huge step forward, and our music making and appreciating community has continue to grown as evident by the increase in nights of this special event. We wanted to take a moment to recognize our seniors for the time they have put into the program as well as the legacy that will be left as they go off to their next step in life.

The students in this ensemble opted to perform a set of contemporary music for Porchella. Their set contains music ranging from older artists from the 60's such as The Beatles and Elvis Presley all the way to modern artists such as The Strokes. This group has worked hard this semester to replicate studio recordings and put on a great show for this year's festival!

Screaming In Space is a rock band born from the monotony of modern society. Having realized that treasured music lies in the past, three guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer came together to form what would be a glimpse back in time of both brilliant 80s rock grandeur and grungy 90s hard-rock sensations—eras of which modern rock artists so earnestly long to revisit.

Talk - Beabadoobee, Fade into You - Mazzy Star, Free from home - An era your mom likes
Hey guys! We are An Era Your Mom Likes, an indie pop band based in Irvine, CA. We have been exploring different tones, harmonies, chords, and drumbeats throughout our musical journey. One of our more experimental challenge this year would be songwriting; we have been honing our skills in lyricism and melodic rhymes to create one of our first originals. We appreciate any feedback on our performances and we thank everyone for the loving support throughout our time at Portola High's Rock Lab!
Vincent M., Nillan, Ethan, Coco
Dreams-Fleetwood Mac, Couch-Dexter and the Moonrocks, Slow Dancing In a Burning Room- John Mayer, and Will for a Pill
Dependence is a fun and energetic band despite our songs being very chill and relaxing. We just love creating a vibe with the songs that we play and we hope to create great music through having fun playing together. From the very start of working together we knew what we wanted our band and our set to be like. It’s easy to say that we successfully created that vision and we are all so excited to show that at this year’s Porchella!
The materials we have to support our students come in no small part from our families generosity. Every cable, amp, stage piece, speaker, and instrument the students have access to is thanks to your support. In order to keep our program reaching out to more students and to keep providing our students with the best possible music making experience we have an Amazon Wish List that we would gladly accept gifts from. The list can be found HERE.

An Evening with Strikethrough - Strikethrough, 777 - Silk Sonic, Skate - Silk Sonic, Fly As Me - Silk Sonic, Looking Out the Window - Silk Sonic, Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars ft. Mark Ronson
Skate with Strikethrough at Porchella! With members who have worked their way up through the program over the years, we've come to form the ultimate pop band with finesse and style. Strikethrough has performed at several school sponsored events and in public domains throughout the 23-24 year including Portola High School pep rallies, Brü Grill & Market, the Disability Awareness Festival at Woodbridge High School, and much more. Tonight at Porchella, we plan to make your evening unforgettable. So fellas, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
As is our tradition we will conclude our two-day music festival with a combination of all of our Popular Music Track students. Tonight we bring you the classic song "Learn To Fly" by the Foo Fighters. As we have gone through the year there have been numerous ups and downs for all students as they navigate the successes and difficulties of the year, and this song best represents how throughout it all they were still by and large able to show up to class and bring each other up through their hard work and positivity. We hope you enjoy how they have raised the ceiling of where music can take an individual, and where the program can grow as we take flight with Learn To Fly!!
Music is alive and well in Irvine, and that is in no small part thanks to patrons like YOU! Without an audience our music wouldn't have the same meaning and our program would not be as healthy and vibrant as it is. We truly enjoy seeing such a variety of students and musicians in our program and are grateful for the opportunity to provide them a space to share their art and passion with the public. Thank you for coming!
We would also like to thank Mr. John Pehrson, Jen Ochsner, Amy Paulsen, and James Coney for their support throughout the year, Mr. Leo Diego and the facilities staff for keeping our spaces clean and facilitating the evening, Ms. Samantha Sanford and the tech students for their work and facility usage, Mr. Adrian Rangel-Sanchez for the undying support, Mr. Kearci Moir and Summer Hsieh for assisting in the art for tonight, Jonathan Zuniga for his assistance in making the sound magical, Jonathan Zuniga, Luke Thomas, and Aron Murillo for their expertise and ensemble coaching, and the PE Department for the usage of their excellently crafted games for tonight.
